Frequently asked questions about switching
Answers to key questions about changing certification bodies.
Yes, you are free to change certification bodies. Under international rules (IAF MD 2), you may transfer as long as your certificate is valid and not suspended. Your current certification body may not withdraw your certificate just because you are switching. The new body carries out a brief review of your file before taking over certification. Read more about the rules →
Your certificate remains valid during and after the transfer. The new certification body takes over certification against the same standard and within your existing certification cycle. Your certification status is uninterrupted.
The new body reviews your latest audit reports, any open nonconformities and complaint history. This is called a pre-transfer review. You authorise your current certification body to share this information. For most businesses this is a formality arranged within a few days. Read how switching works →
In most cases, no. The new certification body treats the file review as part of its intake and customer acquisition. It is still wise to ask beforehand so that you do not encounter surprises.
On average, switching takes 2-4 weeks from the moment you choose a new certification body. It depends on the availability of the new auditor and the transfer of documentation. We guide the entire process and ensure smooth planning.
Our service is completely free and without obligation. You only pay normal audit fees to your new certification body. There are no additional transfer costs, administration fees or hidden surcharges. Many businesses actually save money by switching to a more competitive rate.
You can still switch. The new certification body accepts the recent audit and schedules the next one according to the existing timetable. Your audit cycle continues. Only if you have open major nonconformities must you resolve them before the transfer is final.
That is an understandable concern. But a new auditor also brings benefits: a fresh perspective on your processes and sometimes valuable insights that your current auditor overlooks. New auditors also receive your complete file, so they do not start from scratch. Read why businesses switch →
Less than you think. Most of the work falls to the certification bodies, not you. You provide your current audit reports and authorise the transfer. We handle the rest: collecting and comparing quotations and coordinating the transfer. Read the full story →
Not necessarily. All certification bodies operate under internationally recognised accreditation requirements, whether accredited by RvA, UKAS or another body within the IAF network. Price differences arise from company size, efficiency and commercial choices, not differences in quality. An audit by a less expensive certification body is just as valid as one by a more expensive body.
