EU-OSHA and Cedefop state that better working conditions and attention to occupational safety and health can help attract and retain staff. Labour shortages continue to exist in many occupations that are important for the European economy and the green and digital transition.
According to the report, many occupations facing staff shortages, including those in construction, industry, transport, and health and social care, have demanding working conditions and significant occupational safety and health risks. EU-OSHA also highlights the importance that workers attach to psychosocial well-being, work-life balance and workplace culture.
According to the organisations, safer, healthier and more sustainable work can help employers attract and retain workers while also strengthening the resilience of the labour market. The joint article combines EU-OSHA data on working conditions and occupational safety and health with information from Cedefop on skills and staff shortages.
