Global Accreditation Cooperation Incorporated (Global ACI) has published transition requirements for the transition from ISO 9001:2015, including Amendment 1:2024, to ISO 9001:2026. The transition period lasts three years. From 31 March 2028, new and initial accredited certificates may only be issued against ISO 9001:2026.
Accreditation bodies must be ready by 31 March 2027 at the latest to assess against ISO 9001:2026 and support the transition. Accredited certification bodies must submit their transition statement and supporting information by 30 June 2027 at the latest. Decisions on their transition must be completed by 30 September 2027 at the latest.
Organisations already certified to ISO 9001:2015 must transition by 30 September 2029 at the latest. This can be done during a scheduled surveillance or recertification audit, or through a separate transition audit.
Global ACI’s transition requirements are mandatory for signatories to the Global ACI Multilateral Recognition Arrangement and their accredited certification bodies within the applicable scope. According to Global ACI, the revision includes clearer wording, greater attention to leadership, quality culture and responsibility, and greater clarity regarding risks and opportunities. A new Annex A has also been added to explain key terms and the intent of requirements.
