De nationale accreditatie-instantie publishes transition deadlines for ISO 9001:2026

De nationale accreditatie-instantie describes the transition from ISO 9001:2015/AMD1 to ISO 9001:2026 and sets requirements for accreditation applications.

27 October 2026

The nationale accreditatie-instantie has published the transition deadlines for the transition from ISO 9001:2015/AMD1 to ISO 9001:2026. The revised standard was published in September. GLOBAL ACI applies a transition period of 36 months.

Certification bodies must be accredited for ISO 9001:2026 by 30 September 2027 at the latest. They may carry out initial and recertification audits according to ISO 9001:2015/AMD1 2024 until 31 March 2028 at the latest. Certificate holders may remain certified against the old standard until 30 September 2029 at the latest.

Accredited certification bodies can apply to de nationale accreditatie-instantie for an extension of their accreditation. The application must include, among other things, an internal audit, management review, gap analysis and transition plan. They must also provide information about communication with customers and demonstrate that auditors and decision-makers have been trained for the new standard.

After the extension has been granted, a witnessing of an audit against ISO 9001:2026 will be included in the multi-year planning. This witnessing must take place before 30 September 2029. Both versions of the standard will be listed in the scope of accreditation for as long as the old accreditation remains valid.

GLOBAL ACI’s transition policy applies to certification under the ISO 9001 certification scheme. Sector-specific certification schemes that refer to ISO 9001:2015 do not automatically fall under this policy. The owner of such a scheme must assess the consequences of the revision itself and establish an appropriate transition arrangement.
